I really like this device and must say has giving my fingers gradual strength for playing the strings on my guitar. I use it almost everyday on both hands.

Designed To Develop And Maintain Finger/Hand Strength
And Dexterity When You Are Away From Your Instrument
The NAMM Show, Anaheim, CA (January 15-18, 2009) - Booth #4834 - D'Addario/Planet Waves introduces the ultimate conditioning tool for musicians: the Varigrip Adjustable Hand Exerciser. Designed to develop and maintain hand and finger strength, condition and dexterity, the Varigrip’s ergonomic design and variable tension provides customized conditioning for individual fingers, the entire hand, wrist, and forearm. The reversible molded grip uncovers simulated strings to help develop and maintain finger calluses when you are away from your instrument. The Varigrip offers all-in-one hand fitness and is designed by musicians for musicians!
The Varigrip variable tension exerciser features individually adjustable settings for each finger – from light to hard – so there’s no need for separate models as one unit does it all! Great for all-over strength- and callus-building for the entire hand:
-Palm to Tip - Strengthens forearm, wrist, and hand muscles. Practicing scale pattern will build speed and dexterity.
-Thumb to tip - Builds individual finger strength along with forearm muscles. Practicing scale patterns will build speed and dexterity.
-Thumb Squeeze - Strengthens thumb-area muscles while increasing endurance.
-Fist Grip - Strengthens and increases endurance of entire hand and forearm muscles.
-Chord Press - Builds endurance in the thumb and forearm for chord playing. Great for beginners learning bar chords.
-Callus Builder - Flip the rubber palm grip to piston side of the Varigrip to expose the simulated strings. Use the palm to tip, thumb to tip, or chord press exercises to build and maintain calluses while building muscle strength and endurance.
"Like top athletes, a musician's dedication to good practice techniques and conditioning can make a big difference in their ability to reach their ultimate potential," says Brian Vance, Senior Product Manager. "While practice might not actually make perfect, good practice habits will get you a lot closer to your goal and we’ve created the perfect strength building tool for players anywhere, any time."
