Best Guitar Strings To Date
September 23, 2020
I have gone through different classical guitars and strings for over 45 years. While I do not play professionally, I do enjoy playing a fine guitar and listening to the rich and warm sounds a quality set of strings will provide. Over many years I have used (in this order) LaBella, Augustine, Savarez 520R (High Tension), D'Addario's EXP45 and XTC45 (Normal Tensions). While I enjoyed the Savarez strings for many years, I decided to try the D'Addario's. I was very pleased with the D'Addario's. In fact, my latest guitar purchase (another Manuel Rodriguez - FC [Spruce Top]) came with D'Addario EJ46 (High Tension) strings -only reinforcing my choice of D'Addario strings. Yet, I wasn't quite as warm and rich of a sound as I would expect from this fine guitar's exotic woods and craftsmanship. Every guitar has it's own character, so it stands to reason that each guitar requires the right set of strings to bring out it's it's maximum potential.

I started looking toward other strings for my new FC and came upon Hannabach. Having never used them before, I purchased the 815MT strings. The bass strings were loud, brilliant, had more depth and just plain beautiful. The treble strings, however, had a loud attack, but short sustains -just not resonating as expected. I switched the trebles out with the 815LT strings and it made all the difference in the world. I am very happy with this combination of strings. I really like that Hannabach sells their strings as a full (6-string) set or (3-string) Bass and Treble sets. Let's you experiment and get the right sound for you. These strings cost more than other brands, but definitely worth it. All my guitars will now start using Hannabach strings.

I use these strings on my 1964 Jose Ramirez MT guitar which is one of those iconic classical guitars and they sound great. Since I do not play as much as I once did, I ordered the light tension which I have not yet tried. We will see how those sound with my aging hands.

Nice strings. Good sound and durable. They have lasted about 3 times longer than the Savarez bass strings and at least as long as the D'Addario basses I have tried. I'll repeat with these. Going to try the high tension next.
