A nice surprise.
I'll start by saying that CANNOT STAND Ernie Ball strings. They've just never done it for me on many levels.
These were given to me by a guitarist buddy who made me swear to give em a go. What the hell, their free. Why not?
After putting the Cobalts on the bass (in this case a Music Man Bongo 5) I was quite impressed with how quickly they got seated in the saddle and seemed to hold tune. Also the texture and feel of the string is unlike anything I've ever felt before. It has the smooth slippery feeling of nickle, yet retains a bit of grip like steel. I was intrigued to say the least.
Later that day it came time for band rehearsal (truly a glorious time indeed). Once I switched the amp on and started to warm up, I instantly noticed that over all out put was higher. The high mids seemed to be the most pronounced thing about these strings. As soon as we started jamming band members started to comment about the bass' output and tone. They seemed to like it.
I've had em' on for about 3 weeks of gigging and rehearsal. They seem to be holding their life pretty well for now, and hold tune just fine.
The Cobalts are nice, don't get me wrong. But I'm not sure if their meant for me. Time will tell.
