A great finger-friendly find
April 2, 2016
After a 34-year hiatus, retirement allowed me to resume playing a guitar. I went through the usual finger pains, developed callouses (which helped), bought a better guitar (which also helped), had a set-up done by a great local luthier (which really really helped), and then began exploring different strings. I just recently had the guitar adjusted and light gauge John Pearse phosphor bronze strings put on the guitar after having tried the Earthwood Silk and Steel Soft strings. When it is time to change strings again, I will go back to the Earthwood strings. I do like the sound of the Pearse strings, but the comfort level with the Silk and Steel strings and the ability to practice for longer times trumps the somewhat brighter sound that the Pearse bronze strings provide. They may not be right for everyone, but for someone interested in practicing for 1-3 hours per day (I have a lot of catching up to do), you might appreciate the playability and comfort these and/or the extra soft version provide.

Great S&S folk rhythm string set

I am not usually the silk & steel player, and will swap strings on that player's guitar then swap back. These are very well made, & have better volume than the NAFTA cheapies. If you play these you know what sound you will get. They are easy on the fingers, but do not project like phosphor bronze. They have that S&S folk sound. I am glad to have them available. I do luthrie & set up work, & this is a staple for the silk & steel players.
