DR pure blues

I was excited to try these on my Tele, replacing a set of Fender Bullets. So far I am not impressed, I never had any fret buzz issues until using the DR's. Granted they are easy to bend, and have a good tone, but any aggressive picking will result in buzzing between the 1st and 6th frets. I am going back to the Fender Bullets for now..I use them on my Strat with no issues whatsoever.

DR Issues?
February 15, 2011
Issue at DR? I find intonation on a vintage 50's Les Paul must be reset with each string change and some strings (D & A mainly) will not intonate. Very frustrating since I like these stings. This was not a problem years ago so I am not sure what has changed. I have a few sets left and if the issues persist I will change brands.

DR Pure Blues Nickel Lite - Awesome!
August 22, 2010
Playing 35+ years. Great on my 59 LP copy, completely woke up my Fender American Standard Strat. Sweeter tone, more sustain and easier bends than DR Tite-fits I have been using for 15 years.

Could not find a better price than Juststrings.com! I was expecting factory seconds (an occasional bad string) and a month to get them. Not the case - great strings at a fair price, got them in less than a week.

I switched to DRs years ago because they have more consistent quality than other brands. That said, many reviews cite quality problems which could be the softer nickel material which require gentile stretching-pulling of the strings, tuning from lower notes up to 'tune' and powdered graphite in the nut when installing.

I've installed 3 sets of the 10 I recently bought and played them hard. No problems and lots of enjoyment!

Very happy with DR Pure Blues Nickel Lite and Juststrings.com! I will be a repeat customer for both.

Quality control is not there

I tried these are reading raves. I tried them on my Les Paul Custom. Erratic tuning, they
were way off on intonation. My local shop said they see that problem often with Dr's. I used them for years on my Bass, but no more for me thanks. Try Roto's

I have been using these strings for years on all my guitars (PRS FENDER GIBSON IBANEZ) - they are very consistent in their feel and sound.

DR Pure Blues Nickel
November 4, 2009
I've played guitar for 20+ years and tried every brand of strings. Without reservation I can say DR Pure Blues Nickel is the finest string for rock/funk/country/fusion...you name it. They have clarity of tone and warmth combined with bendability that other strings do not have.

"Pure Blues"

"In the DR tradition of using old style construction to improve modern performance, PURE-BLUES electric guitar strings are designed with pure nickel wrap wire, round wound upon round cores. While this is a slow, expensive method of string making, it does produce a string acclaimed for increased sustain, vintage tone, and great low tones for playing rhythm to lead. The extra step of winding pure nickel around a round core gives the PURE-BLUES a punch that players say they are surprised to get in a vintage string.

DR Strings

"From the first handmade strings DR made for Marcus Miller and Jeff Healey (both of whom have played DR's for over six years), to our latest development, the remarkable ZEBRA electric-acoustic strings, DR HandMade Strings approaches sound and string design differently from other makers… we are all players. The secret to the way we make DR strings is the word "slow." No other company we know makes strings one at a time, so very slowly and carefully. Quality of sound is paramount… along with the highest possible specifications for materials. Longevity and durability are our next concerns. We are NOT a high speed, mass production company. We have an elaborate quality control system.

For a relatively new company, we have been embraced by a surprising number of "Legends and Masters" of guitar and bass. A partial list of DR endorsees includes Sting, Marcus Miller, Jeff Healey, Adam Clayton of U2, Warren Haynes of GOV'T MULE and THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, Jonas Hellborg, Bo Diddley, "Skunk" Baxter, Victor Bailey, Steve Kaufman, Percy Jones, Darryl Jones of THE ROLLING STONES, Rick Derringer, Mick Karnes, Andreas Kisser, Max Cavalera, & Paulo Jr. of SEPULTURA, Birelli Legren, Trey Anastasio and Mick Gordon of PHISH, SMASHING PUMPKINS, Gary Tallent, Tony Franklin, Ty Tabor & Doug Pinnock of KING'S X, Dimebag Darrell of PANTERA, Scott Ian, Paul Crook, & Frank Bello of ANTHRAX, Stefan Lessard with THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, Peter Rowan, Shawn Lane, Paul Pesco Matt Freeman with RANCID, Per Gessle of ROXETTE, Sharlee D'Angelo of MERCYFUL FATE, and VERUCA SALT.

DR Strings are made with more metal than one realizes at first. By way of example, before a .042 gauge DR string is carefully wound, core wire and wrap wire that total .043 are prepared. After a process we call "Compression-Winding", a DR string that gauges a .042 is produced.

The ratios and principles of "TITE-FIT" / "Compression-Winding" are used for the specifications and manufacture of all DR strings. At DR we craft our strings at tension. The following is one example of how the DR wrap/ratio formula works… in this case for .042's. Core wire is .016, wrap wire is .0135 x 2 (top and bottom covers). Total material gauges .043 before winding and .042 after winding."
