4.5 Close but not perfect
October 4, 2019
The Fat Beams have a nice big, full tone that react to touch and EQ well.
They break in within an hour or two, are very stable even when slapping or playing hard and
maintain their sound, body and responsiveness for many, many sets. I don't have a definitive
time table on the wear pattern yet, but better than most. I have no problem adapting with
the strings to play about any style, although as I said earlier... They do have a have BIG sound
and relate really well to styles where you can take advantage of their big full body. And... they
are all around fairly comfortable to play. I give them a 4.5! Not the perfect string, but about
as about as I've come so far.

Nice tone!
September 10, 2015
Ever since I replaced the pickups in my Squier VM Jazz Bass with DiMarzio Area J pickups, I have been trying different strings to get a good tone. These pickups sound different than the original ones, so the search began. This is only the third set of strings I have tried, and I have to say these sound beautiful (to me, anyway). They have a nice high end, but not a harsh sound. They don't squeak much at all, unlike most stainless steel strings. And I haven't noticed that cringe-worthy "zing". They don't "grab" my fingers, either, feel very smooth for rounds. Those "fat mids" I've read about must be the main reason for the nice tone. I discovered that I don't like strings that have a "scooped" sound. Why scoop out the best part? Though I haven't really tried to learn slap bass yet, I mess around with it sometimes, so I tried it with these strings. I get a nice tone out of that too! Who says you needed scooped strings for slap? I'll be leaving these strings on to see how long they last, before trying anything else. I have a feeling I will end my search here, these string sound great! (Your mileage may vary).
