Not bad but not my go to
July 7, 2022
Out of the pack these strings feel fine but they are way brighter than what I am used to, like almost too bright. After a week or so they get "worn-in" but they are more dull than a month old set of Ernie Balls.
Also I've noticed that these strings sound really clear and chimey which isn't a bad thing but on my rig I had to cut the treble from about 12 o'clock to about 9 o'clock to get rid of that ice pick G string, and they don't really have the same punch and grit that a set of EB's has. Speaking of the G string, it is super loud compared to every other string in the set, like really loud

If you play pop or jazz or anything that needs a cleaner, more standard bass tone these will work great for you but for me they lack the dirt and beef for anything heavier.

At least they don't rust like Ernie Ball

Overall 3.5/5
Nice even feel I like the gauge a lot Very clean and pronounced fundamental notes Good for softer genres Great for finger style Corrosion resistant Super Bright Uneven Tone Lacking low end and mid range Doesn't sound great with a pick Dull quickly Lacking grit

Brilliant Lightweights

Heavy enough & light enough.
Bright & tight. Good stuff.
Bright, snappy, tone. Sweat and I kill them quick. I get ONE gig or a couple of sweaty rehearsals out of them. So, I anticipate a brief lifespan when I mount them...if I want the optimum snap outta them. They feel good. Bright. Great tension & playability across the neck.

Pros: Great bass string if you're looking for a string that bends well and has a higher slap tone. Easy to tap on. Quick on the action. D'Addario has always been a "set-it and forget-it" string for me. Once you put them on and tune them, they're set. It's as if they were already broken in.

Cons: Sometimes I feel like I'm going to break the higher strings when I get too carried away playing. If the action seems too movable for you try the EXL170 which range from .045 to .100.

"Popularly priced XL nickel round wound bass strings are wound with the same nickel-plated steel alloy as XL round wound guitar strings. Today's XL string specifications are the culmination of years of experimentation by Jim D'Addario and John D'Addario, Sr. Even now, D'Addario's sound room is crowded with different electric bass guitars for experimentation with different string specifications and for quality tests on string production. The XL series of D'Addario's broadest and largest-selling line of electric bass guitar strings, with 18 different string models offered. Many models are available in both environmental and standard packaging."
