10-52+66 / 70 for 7-string in B Standard / Drop A
Pretty much all pre-packaged 7-string sets have far too thin of a low string -- even in standard tuning, the tension on the low string is quite a bit less than the other strings. Go to a drop tuning, and it just gets worse. Dunlop makes a 9-62 set that can be found in a well-stocked local shop that will work in a pinch, but it is still not ideal. Buying 6-string sets with a separate high-gauge string is the next-best option to creating your own custom set with single strings.

This 10-52 set with a 66 gauge for the low string works great in standard tuning. Drop tuning works better with a 70 gauge. You might need to slightly widen the nut slot to accept this thick of a string, but this is easily done as long as you take things slow and only remove small amounts of material at a time until the string slips in.

light top - HEAVY BOTTOM!!
I love these strings and have been using them for the past 15 years or so. Every once in awhile I try another brand, thinking I need to change up, but I end up taking them off immediately and going back to the XL140's. They have consistent tone and keep their life long. Even when they start to deaden, they sound awesome! One slight change I make is switching the .010 to a .011.

Lite top Heavy Bottom
Any guitarist playing blues, rock, pop, or country should know that these are great sounding and feeling strings, also because each set is in a small plastic bag you can be sure never to break open a new pack only to find your high e b and g strings have already rusted just like the day after a hot show.
I have played these strings on stages the world over for years and they are simply the most reliable option.

thrash metal/death metal
These strings are all around great for fast playing and heavy solos -- ideal for fast playing guitarist. I play aggressive thrash metal/death metal, and I use these strings a lot.
