D'Addario Classical Guitar Pro Arte Classical Lightly Polished Silverplated
May 12, 2011
My latest guitar came from the builder with D'Addario nylon of normal tension and he recommended staying with that tension if possible. I have always found D'Addario strings to be somewhat noisy under the fingers and so tried these polished ones in normal.

First, I like the feel of the trebles under the fingers and the balance between strings and up the neck is great especially using the special 3rd string. I do find the basses still to be noisy under the left hand and the windings seen of harder temper that other strings I have used. Also, there is a definite transition in brightness, the basses seem brighter than the trebles--or of a different tone quality in any case.

The basses wear well with little abrasion noted at the frets--although I would prefer the strings to wear and thus conserve the frets.

They certainly bring their own color along and while are not my favorite strings I would consider them if playing background music at a dinner where the extra brightness would help carry the sound .

I have been using D'Addario strings for 20 years and have NEVER been disappointed.
They are extremely consistent in tone, quality, balance and clarity. Thank you!!

My favorite strings

I prefer these strings because they are a little quieter when sliding on the lower strings.

I only ever use the ej45 and ej45lp, they are the best strings I've ever used;
Good intonation on all frets, nice solid sound with unbelievable sustain on the high trebles.

D'Addario Classical Pro Arte Normal: EJ45LP

I am in the process of testing as many strings as possible for my 3 classical guitars. So far, these are the best I've tried on all 3 guitars. One of them likes hard strings, the other two like normal tension (these strings). You need to be cautious installing hard strings on some guitars. These strings last a very long time and settle in quickly (about 1 week) to where tuning up before playing is a matter of slightly adjusting one or maybe 2 strings - often not at all. These strings are easy to install and tone is equal in sound and intensity throughout all strings. They come with two G strings; I prefer the carbon (colored) string to the clear as it is a bit stronger in tone and clearer sounding.

Excellent strings

These strings sound very good, are easy to play, and reduce the amount of noise when shifting on the lower strings.

"These D'Addario Lightly Polished Composites were developed with touring and recording professionals who were looking to reduce finger noise and friction on their wound bass strings without sacrificing overall classical string tone. During prototype testing, these strings were distributed to our roster of professional classical guitar string endorsees. The response was overwhelmingly positive.

"Lightly Polished Composite strings result from the application of today's latest technologies. The unique composite core polymer and a totally new winding and polishing system make these the first polished wound strings with the tone and projection of unpolished strings. Truly a breakthrough product."

"Pro·Arté classic guitar strings are just that -- classics. The treble strings are made from a harder formulation of nylon, and are precision extruded to guarantee a string that's even in diameter from one end to the other. And as an added quality-control measure, every single Pro·Arté treble string is hand-fed through a laser micrometer and sorting station to ensure that the string in your package tunes to the exact playing tension you're looking for.

Nylon is extruded in molten form; this process yields material that can vary in diameter by plus or minimum one thousandth of an inch. Though this difference is only about one fourth the thickness of a human hair, professionally trained classical guitarists can sense the contrast in string tension when the diameter varies by small amounts. The solution to the problem presented by this tension variable was to apply the latest technological advancements to the building of a sorting station, which utilizes a laser micrometer and a high-speed computer. The laser takes nearly 200 measurements on each string, compares and averages the data, and drops the measured string into the proper tension bin.

What's the end result? Every time you purchase your favorite tension of Pro·Arté  classics, you get the same exact string diameter to within four ten-thousandths of an inch.

The wound strings in the Pro·Arté line are wound with silver-plated copper or 80/20 bronze wires on D'Addario's own computer-controlled automatic winding machinery and are available in 4 different tensions for classic guitar.
