It the 70's as young sailors we played and played all kinds of strings. In the mid-80's when I turned pro gigging 9 nights a week I discovered that the EJ-17's were the best sounding and consistently the longest lasting strings out there. I just bought 10 packs because it's time to dress up 5 of my babies. I am hard on strings and almost never break one.

The perfect strings for acoustic or bluegrass music! Rich powerful tone perfectly made and packaged to eliminate moisture. I've also tried all the coated string brands at three times the cost and they don't sound as good or last much longer. A serious flatpicker is better off to buy the D'Addario EJ17 in the 10 pack and change strings before a big jam or gig. You will always have great sound, and still have good string life! You can't go wrong!

The best strings I ever used. Love to play bluegrass music as much as I can. These are the best strings I have found to use in every playing environment. Thanks for the best quality strings ever.

Gillian Welch plays EJ17.

"In 1974, D'Addario pioneered the use of phosphor bronze wire for the winding of acoustic guitar strings. D'Addario phosphor bronze strings were an instant and enduring success. A more costly alloy, phosphor bronze was widely known as a durable, long-lasting material used in machine bushings and bearings. After months of searching, a wire company was located that agreed to make sample wires for testing on music strings. The results made history. D'Addario phosphor bronze strings are bright sounding and retain their brilliance longer than other bronze and brass alloys.

Round wound phosphors are available in 6 different gauges for 6 string guitar, 3 gauges for 12 string, and 4 gauges in the Flat Tops series. Flat Tops are round wound phosphor bronze strings that are lightly polished to reduce finger noise and fret wear, and are an excellent choice for noise-fee recording."
