From what I've been told and read, these are the best bass guitar strings. After playing in the studio and stage for over 40 years, I'm switching from my other D'Addario round wound set. I use D'Addario strings on all 7 of my guitars, 6 & 12 string acoustic and electric and Bass. I'll be using these in my recording studio from now on. D'Addario ROCKS! Thanks...Live Long and Prosper. Chromes flat wounds

All around great strings. Remarkable tone for a flat wound. Nice balance of gauge and tension. The tension also gives them a punch you don't get from some other flat wounds. I have them on all of my basses now. If you're stringing through the body, get the extra long scale.

These are excellent strings! Classic Chrome flatwound sound. They start out a little bright but mellow up nicely. The extra length is necessary for through body stringing (at least on my classic stingray). Regular Chromes are a little too short. FYI, if you are using these on a standard 34 inch scale, remember the tensions shown are for a longer scale! (Use the tensions shown for the regular ECB81 set.) Regarding gauge, I'd buy a 45-105 set of Chromes if they made one, but until then these are it for the classic stingray!

I like D'Addario Chromes. The have just the right amount of clarity, punch, and sustain. I am an upright player and these strings allow me to get an upright kind of tone on my bass guitar.

This set is nearly perfect for my bass. I would prefer the low E string to have a bit more tension, which would clarify the lowest notes and allow me to dig in a little bit more on that string. Otherwise, the tone and tension of the strings is really good for me.

D'Addario strings have remarkable consistency and quality control.

These strings are nice. I am not going to say they are the best flats ever. But for the price they are nice. When you first string them up on your bass they are a little more crisp and brighter then you would expect but as they age they darken tone wise. What I do like about these is they have the different colored ball ends for each gauge and that is useful to me because I like to save strings after I replace them. I'd say these have more of a decent tension, it's not something you have to fight over... OVERALL GOOD STRINGS.

"D'Addario Chromesâ are crafted with precision flat (ribbon) outer windings and polished to a fine high luster, but this bass string's tone is not typical of most flat wound strings. By creating under-windings and core combinations that vibrate freely, D'Addario has been able to develop a flat wound bass string that has a true, clear sound while offering the advantages of a smooth exterior winding."
