D'Addario Electric Bass ProSteels Super Long Scale, .045 - .130, EPS170-5SLMike BearApril 18, 2010I use Pro Steels on half my basses. Depends on the gig. I was a big Rotosound guy for years. When I switched over to 6-string bass in '95 it was virtually impossible to get a 6-string steel string set. So I went over and tried a few other brands and gave up on steels. Ken Smith, Ernie Ball, etc. Around '98 I got into D'Addario and have been playing them ever since. When they came out with Pro Steels a few years back, my heart nearly dropped. I could get my good rockin' grindyness out again. I have stuck with D'Addario because they are very even in tension from string to string and still are at a competitive price point. These also feel a bit smoother than some of the other steel sets I've played as well. I also play in various tunings and use different size sets. These stand up on all fronts.
