Fantastic Strings
August 15, 2015
I've tried a very, VERY wide variety of strings on my archtop...mostly flats, but also roundwounds and half-wounds. Most of the flatwound sets I've tried can be thrown into the same category; good strings that play nicely and have an average lifespan. Thomastik-Infeld Swing flats had been my favorite strings for a few years, and for good reason. The TI George Benson signature strings are everything that I love about the Swings but with a bump up in quality in every aspect.

I've been playing for 20 years, hold a master's in jazz guitar, and perform actively, and there's one important thing I've learned about buying strings...you get what you pay for. Yes, these strings are very expensive, but I get a super long lifespan out of them and after 6 months I still love the way they sound.

Try these out.

Thomastic Jazz Strings

Best I've ever played with. I've been using the swing jazz for two years now, not too much metal, not too dull, intonation is the best I've come across. I would change my strings every weekend (Daddario, Dean Markley etc...) now... once a month! Just ordered the Benson 12's, the difference between pro & beginner... thomastic is it! Can't wait to try the GB's.

GB112 - The Best

Just to echo some of the other reviews, I've tried all the flatwounds on my archtop, and these by far sound the best.

TI GB Flats 12 - 53
April 2, 2011
I've used the TI flats for many years, both the 12 - 53 and the 14 - 56 gauge sets. I love the GBs - and the Jazz flats too - but the thicker bass strings of the GB work better for me. As with the Jazz flats, the nickel alloy - or whatever it is - gives me a great tone, reasonable sustain, and the strings last a very long time. Also, sets are very consistent so far as I can tell.

BEST JAZZ & R&B STRINGS ON THE PLANET!
November 10, 2010
I use these strings on my Gibson ES-335 and my Gibson Les Paul Supreme. If they're good enough for George, they're good enough for me. I won't string my electrics with anything else! They sound sweet, have excellent sustain, stand up to a pick, and last forever without losing tone!

George Benson Strings
July 12, 2010
I recently bought an archtop guitar. Having always loved the traditional flatwound jazz archtop guitar sound, I set about trying virtually every conceivable flatwound string in search of the right tone. Some strings sounded muddy and awful. Others sounded very good, but were still a bit too dark for my guitar (a luthier-built Gibson ES-150 copy) and amp (Fender Deluxe Reverb). The George Benson medium lights are the only flatwound strings I've found that give me the vintage tone I want without sounding too muddy and dark. The gauges are ideal, too.

SUPER on VINTAGE ARCHTOPS
August 11, 2009
These strings have golden coated uppers & WOW what a wonderful golden tone they brought to 2 of my vintage archtops. Thanks George - great design & Kudos Thomastik for the superb implementation.
Tone for days & silky smoothness too - who could ask for more.
