Thomastik Plectrum Strings
October 31, 2015
I have used these strings off and on since they came on the US market back in the 1990's. They are just as Thomastik describes: strings with a warm soft sound and low tension. I have used the med (61-13) strings on several instruments with no issues. There are several reviews here that complain about the length of the wrap not being right. I have never found that to be an issue. I have used them on both my short necked Fylde Goodfellow and my Custom Breedlove and am unable to explain why someone found that an issue. The cost may seem high to some, but they do last longer than most standard strings. They work just as well for fingerpickers and flat-pickers. A different sound that some will come to love.

Big Problem with these strings
July 6, 2014
WARNING - big problem for quite expensive strings which are ostensibly designed to be used on guitars "struck with a plectrum", like an acoustic archtop guitar: the 3rd and 4th string don't even reach the tuning peg except for the exposed not-fully-wrapped part. And I'm not even talking about the vast majority of L-5s, L-7s, etc out there which are 25.4" scale: I'm talking about SHORT SCALE 24.9", 16 Inch Archtops. This is extremely JIVE. If you're using them on a flat top (without the extra length required for a tailpiece) they work fine...but I am still at a loss as to why anyone would want their sound. Maybe it sounds good to the Viennese...

Thomastic Plectrum Bronze.
August 31, 2010
The Thomastic strings I've used in the past have been superb..in every way...

EXCEPT the strings aren't long enough for me to use on my '46 Epiphone Triumph..The flat wounds are OK but

not the round wound bronze.

Thomastik's description of these is accurate. They have a somewhat soft, very warm, rich sound. They play like a dream and I think they last a good bit longer than average. These are not the string for a hard-driving bluegrasser or someone who really needs a bright, forward sound.

Plectrum Acoustic Series

characteristics: soft sounding, low tension

"PLECTRUM Acoustic Series are soft sounding strings for acoustic guitar with low tension on the bottom end. The plain strings are made of brass coated steel, the wound strings have a silk inlay in combination with a highly flexible steel core. Wound strings are polished bronze round-wound.

A remarkable string that prompts comments like "I never knew a string like this existed!". The combination of lower overall tension, hybrid arrangement of flatwounds with roundwounds and silk inlays (for precise overtone balance) produces a beautiful, almost classical tone, with the warmth of bronze and the easy playbility of a fine set of jazz strings. And because of its low, evenly balanced tensions, Plectrums can extend the playing life of many fine older guitars with weak bracing and other special age conditions.

PLECTRUM are available for 6- and 12-string instrument.
