Thomastik-Infeld Flat Wound
Individual Thomastik-Infeld flatwound bass strings are available here: Thomastik-Infeld Flat Wound Singles.
Thomastik flatwound bass strings are among the highest quality bass strings in the world. We carry Thomastik Infeld 4 string, 5 string and 6 string long (34”) scale sets, as well as 4 string medium (32”) scale sets and 4 string and 5 string extra long (36”) sets. Thomastik Infeld bass strings come with Thomastik-Infeld’s special string gauging, which produces superbly balanced string response and tone. These flatwound bass strings are wound with pure nickel ribbon wire on round cores. This produces a perfectly smooth string with somewhat lower tension than a hexagonal core string.
Thomastik flatwound bass strings have round steel cores which allow them to vibrate freely; round cores do not have a preferred motion axis. These nickel flatwounds are true flatwounds with a polished nickel surface giving them a smooth, supple feel. They feature a Thomastik-only silk inlay in between the layers of winding which enhances their organic, warm tones. These Thomastik Infeld bass strings have colored silk wrapping at their ends to lock the windings in place. Their Jazz Bass strings give you vintage style jazz bass tone and extraordinary sensitivity.
Thomastik-Infeld has been making strings in Vienna, Austria since 1919. The company was formed by violin maker Dr. Franz Thomastik and engineer Otto Infeld. They were among the first to make steel strings for musical instruments. Their steel strings were of much higher quality and more precisely made than the popular gut strings of the day. Thomastik-Infeld strings were, and still are made to a higher standard than other music strings. Thomastik-Infeld continues to supply distinguishing players with a variety of excellent quality strings, including flatwound bass strings, today.
