Renaissance Guitar Strings

La Bella Renaissance Guitar Strings
Renaissance guitar strings, also called gittern strings, are available from La Bella. Renaissance guitar strings / gittern strings come in sets of eight, containing four courses of two strings each.

The renaissance guitar or gittern is a small, plucked string instrument dating from sometime in the 13th century. It was brought to Europe through Moorish Spain. The gittern is an early ancestor of the guitar. In shape and construction it resembles a mandore, an ancestor of the modern mandolin, having a rounded back. The gittern however, is usually smaller and does not have any clear distinction between its body and its neck.

The renaissance guitar or gittern was most commonly used by minstrels from the 1200s onward until the invention of the modern guitar, which replaced the gittern after coexisting with it for some time.
