Simply the best set of strings one can put on their Smith basses period.

Love these strings for my Pedulla Thunderbass 5 string. Nice clean sound with a good feel.

Was a long-time loyal user of Pedulla strings as they were one of the only tapered core strings available for quite a while. When they went out of business, I needed to find a good replacement. Ordered a set of these and I've been really impressed. They also seem to last longer. I broke the 105 string regularly on the Pedullas. So far haven't had that issue with the Smiths.

The only reason I'm not giving these a 5 star review is the 125 is a little long (they are for extended scale), but I can't seem to find a tapered 5-string set that isn't for extended scale.

I've been using these strings for about 30 years. They have a great sound, and feel. And Just Strings has them in stock at a great price.

I've been playing professionally for over 40 years, and I'm always looking for anything to improve the sound and playability of my basses and strings are a big part of that. I've been using the DR Longneck Taper Cores on my Fender American Standard and Jazz Deluxe 5 strings for years now. I liked the Fender strings originally out of the box, but they don't last very long and when they go dead they don't go dead evenly. I have received packages of these Fender strings with one or more strings already dead and as of late these strings are coming with more and more grime on them brand new. Fender had a pretty good thing there for awhile with these strings and then something changed, so from Fender I moved on to the DR Longneck Taper Cores. I love the sound of those but recently I have received sets of these that sound like a chorus on my upper register and that seems to happen roughly every third set or so. I've seen this same complaint by other bassists all over the internet as of late. Since the DR Longnecks have become a crap shoot and they are too expensive to keep switching out when I get a bad set, I decided I could no longer live with that situation and it was on to the Smiths. I read the reviews and decided to give these a try. They seem like good strings. I like the wrappings to protect your hardware,and they fit nicely on my Fender, but sadly these just didn't do it for me. Compared to the DR Longhorn Taper Cores the tone is very much more subdued. I could live with that if they at least sounded even, but the biggest thing I didn't like about this set of strings was that there was simply no zing. Sustain compared to the Longnecks was poor especially in the upper register, and the "B' string was nowhere near as articulate and sounded dead and muddy compared to the DR Longnecks. Needless to say I was disappointed in this set. Maybe they work better with the Smith line of basses, but they didn't do anything for the sound of my Fender.

Some medium-light taper core KS strings for my KS bass is plain and simple a match made in heaven.

I haven't had new strings on my basses in over ten years, as I haven't been playing regularly. I have used other strings on my CR-5 Smith bass in the past, and after talking with Ken Smith, I decided it was time to put on his strings. What a difference!! I've finally found the strings that I've been looking for, and I'm enjoying playing again!! On top of that, I restrung my Charvel Fusion 4 string with a set of the same diameter strings but added a high C. They worked perfect the first time, and it's like playing a new instrument. Truly, some of the best strings ever!!

I've been using Ken Smith strings for the past 25 years. No matter if I needed strings for my fretted or fretless basses or even headless basses, Ken Smith and Just Strings have been my sole source for strings.
