These are my go-to strings
April 24, 2021
I love the custom lights for my concert size Taylor and Breedlove guitars. The makers recommend light strings and these are a way of adding a little beef to the lights without going up to a gauge that is too thick. I love the wound 3rd string. I love these, they sound amazing.
ProsAffordable, great sounding, unique gauge that you can't find anywhere else with a wound 3rd string.
ConsI wish they came in an airtight package.

James was right

I've been a fan of James Taylor recordings for many years and purchased John Pearse strings when I learned that they are used exclusively on his tours.
Now I also prefer John Pearse strings on my acoustic guitar.
ProsThey are comfortable to play. Not sure how long they last because I change them often. Phosphor and Bronze seem to be a nice sounding combination of materials. I am partial to a clear, softer sound and alternate with John Pearse 'silk & steel' strings too.

No matter how many guitars I've owned over the last thirty years (and there have been more than a few), there has always been a set of John Pearse strings that made those guitars sound their best. From nickel to phosphor-bronze, regardless of the gauge, I can be sure that John Pearse has got the strings I need. Currently, I'm using the JP 640 Custom Light gauge strings on my old J.W. Gallagher dreadnought, and the sound and feel when I play is fantastic. It makes me sound even better (by all rights than I should), and the strings are in no small part directly responsible for that. Perfect tension, a consistent, resonant, balanced tone, and a great feel.
ProsLong life: they hold whatever tuning I choose extremely well, and record beautifully.
ConsNothing comes to mind. Oh, wait ... they aren't free, even though the price is very reasonable at JustStrings. Otherwise, absolutely nothing.
