The old fenders were better imo but these are very good strings. Tension is a little high but they wear in after a bit.

Just got these strings a couple of days ago and I really like em. I'm going for a more classic stand up bass sound and I think with these strings I'm getting pretty close. I would definitely prefer these over roundwounds now because they're so warm and rich. I don't think I'll ever switch back to roundwounds.

Don't think I've used Fender strings since my first bass in the 60's. Used Rotosound roundwound thru the 70's and 80's, and GHS pressurewound from then til now, with various experiments with other strings over the last 20 years. These are my new favorites. They ring like a bell and are smooth to the touch of course. Tried Thomastik flats several years ago and didn't like the low tension. These are very close to those and have the higher tension I need so the string fights back instead of giving in like the Thoms.
Very happy they aren't the Fender flats of 40 years ago.

I use these on my Fender American Deluxe P-Bass.

I string them through the body.

They work great, really brings out that true P-Bass tone.

Very even response from one string to the other.

For old school thump, R&B, soul & Motown you can't beat a set of flats. Every bass player should have a P-bass loaded with a set of flats in their arsenal.

Fender still makes a great set of strings. We put them on our Fender P-Bass replacing the original set of round wounds. My son plays Jazz and likes the silky feel of the flat wounds.

Stainless Flatwounds 9050's

"The first electric basses were made by Fender and were equipped with flatwound strings to more closely resemble the sound of an upright "doghouse" bass. Today's Fender Flatwounds last longer but still give that fat, warm sound you need for jazz, country or … use your imagination. There's no rules here. Try a set."
