Brightest flats in town
September 5, 2021
The slinky flats are a great roundwound substitute for either folks that want the feel of flats under their fingers without the dull thud of traditional flats, or that want to really liven up a fretless bass without chewing into the board with rounds. These seem to have lower tension than the regular EB slinky 5 strings (every bass I've put them on has needed a loosening of the truss rod to return to preferred action), and I definitely find them easier to move on than DR and GHS flats. Do note that you'll want to wind them the way they recommend in the package to avoid slippage.
ProsGreat feel, incredibly bright sound, long lasting
ConsSurface finish takes a while to get used to, hard to find on short notice, somewhat fiddly winding process

Best strings I’ve ever used!
August 14, 2021
I’ve always had a generally low opinion of Ernie Ball strings from the past but after seeing a few demos of these cobalt strings, I decided to give them a try. Wow! They’re fantastic. They have the great feel of flats and the general tone that you’d expect with out completely losing the high end. They work great for smooth jazz and R&B tones as well as funkier slap and rock sounds. Easily the most versatile strings I’ve used. I have them on a J/MM Bass that I really wanted to have the most all encompassing tone for being able to sit in with any style of music and these strings are really what pushed it over the edge in achieving that goal.

I didn't get the Ernie Ball strings because they were on back-order, but the ones I did get are great!
ProsExactly as expected, smooth and sound great!
ConsStrings are thicker than I imagined but they work just as well.
High quality flat wound strings!

This is the first set of flat wounds I have purchased and I do like them. The comparison comes to some other basses I e played with flat wound strings. I like the way the Ernie Ball strings feel. They are good and appear to be high quality.
