Ever since D'Angelico strings went away, I loved their Hot Nickel concept strings, This is as close as I can get to those. They stay in tune, sound right. Just Strings is awesome as always, what else can you say about a company that always delivers?

These DR Pure blues strings seem to me the equivalent of the DR Sunbeam acoustic strings. Both come in the same distinctive "Blue" box. They both exhibit the same musical sustain and melodious sound in their respective genre's - one acoustic the other electric. My vintage powder blue "Strat" just sounds that much better, and slide work has that great mellow musical sound without any harsh brashness. Good stuff all round really.

I tried these strings at once, and they sound terrific. They add a lot of chiming highs and have a very long sustain. At the same time they have larger amplitude on vibration, so I had to add some more action to eliminate buzz. Finally I changed to Tite-Fit since my guitar is chiming itself, so Pure Blues turned my instrument into a flamenco-like sounding tool. I can recommend these strings for applications on mellower-sounding guitars to add some highs. They are worth to try, even if it may require additional setup.

Very nice string. Warm, articulate and a great feel. In such a large field of electric strings, I feel these really stand out.

Love these strings!

I haven't played many electric guitar strings since I come from the acoustic world but I can say these strings have incredible tone. I play a Les Paul and these strings are a great match. They have a warmth and clarity that really helps a humbucker pickup shine. They can be warm and almost buttery one moment then breaking up beautifully the next.

I tune down a half step and the DR Blues are the best string I have found for playing flat. They stay tight and in tune with no flab or rattle. Nice tone and they last.

I have been playing guitar for 28 years and have used various strings during this time. Playing three vintage guitars, for my tone, the DR Pure Blues 10-46 are the best for my personal taste. To my ears, they stay in tune as a fresh set better than others and the tone gets better as you play them.

These strings have a certain grit and growl, but no brittleness whatsoever... the metal actually feels supple.

This string is probably the softest and most flexable pure nickel string, with the most tone that I have ever played. I use them on my deluxe tele and my strat. They are fantastic.

Pure Blues

In the DR tradition of using old style construction to improve modern performance, PURE-BLUES electric guitar strings are designed with pure nickel wrap wire, round wound upon round cores. While this is a slow, expensive method of string making, it does produce a string acclaimed for increased sustain, vintage tone, and great low tones for playing rhythm to lead. The extra step of winding pure nickel around a round core gives the PURE-BLUES a punch that players say they are surprised to get in a vintage string.

DR Strings

From the first handmade strings DR made for Marcus Miller and Jeff Healey (both of whom have played DR's for over six years), to our latest development, the remarkable ZEBRA electric-acoustic strings, DR HandMade Strings approaches sound and string design differently from other makers… we are all players. The secret to the way we make DR strings is the word "slow." No other company we know makes strings one at a time, so very slowly and carefully. Quality of sound is paramount… along with the highest possible specifications for materials. Longevity and durability are our next concerns. We are NOT a high speed, mass production company. We have an elaborate quality control system.

For a relatively new company, we have been embraced by a surprising number of "Legends and Masters" of guitar and bass. A partial list of DR endorsees includes Sting, Marcus Miller, Jeff Healey, Adam Clayton of U2, Warren Haynes of GOV'T MULE and THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, Jonas Hellborg, Bo Diddley, "Skunk" Baxter, Victor Bailey, Steve Kaufman, Percy Jones, Darryl Jones of THE ROLLING STONES, Rick Derringer, Mick Karnes, Andreas Kisser, Max Cavalera, & Paulo Jr. of SEPULTURA, Birelli Legren, Trey Anastasio and Mick Gordon of PHISH, SMASHING PUMPKINS, Gary Tallent, Tony Franklin, Ty Tabor & Doug Pinnock of KING'S X, Dimebag Darrell of PANTERA, Scott Ian, Paul Crook, & Frank Bello of ANTHRAX, Stefan Lessard with THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, Peter Rowan, Shawn Lane, Paul Pesco Matt Freeman with RANCID, Per Gessle of ROXETTE, Sharlee D'Angelo of MERCYFUL FATE, and VERUCA SALT.

DR Strings are made with more metal than one realizes at first. By way of example, before a .042 gauge DR string is carefully wound, core wire and wrap wire that total .043 are prepared. After a process we call "Compression-Winding", a DR string that gauges a .042 is produced.

The ratios and principles of "TITE-FIT" / "Compression-Winding" are used for the specifications and manufacture of all DR strings. At DR we craft our strings at tension. The following is one example of how the DR wrap/ratio formula works… in this case for .042's. Core wire is .016, wrap wire is .0135 x 2 (top and bottom covers). Total material gauges .043 before winding and .042 after winding.
