D'Addario Bass Pro Steel .130 Taper Wound
December 4, 2009
The Pro Steels give me the clear ringing sound I need. I haven't found a better sounding string for anywhere near the price. The taper wound on the .130 is critical for me. It allows me to much more easily intonate the low B. But also, it lasts much longer before going dead on my through body bridge. With a standard full wound .130, the bend over the bridge is too sharp for the fat string. This causes the string to be difficult to impossible to intonate properly, and also the string rapidly loses its ringing character in 1 to 2 weeks. The taper wound is skinnier over the bridge and conforms easily, making intonation easy. It also keeps its character for much longer, up to a month.
