Magic Strings
June 22, 2022
A few years ago I tried these strings in order to get a 'lower voice' on a violin and I was skeptical about the result. Usually people try viola strings on a violin and they don't speak well and are 'flabby'. Viola strings just don't work.

Somehow D'Addario has figured out how to make the right tension and mass in these octave violin strings and it really works on a violin. This is no compromise they work like violin strings and an amazing low sound comes out! It is lower than a cello. GDAE an octave lower is quite magical and it is even more impressive that the strings don't bottom out, buzz or do weird wolf tones like others do. They are quite amazing.
They work very well. Top quality. The nut or bridge may need some adjustments.

G string is too short
May 16, 2022
I used a lightweight tailpiece that is shorter to help lengthen the string length a bit but after getting it all done the G string is about 1/2 inch too short and silk wrap extends onto the fingerboard. It seems to be shorter than regular G strings!
cost less than other sets Don't fit even a slightly lengthened string length using a shorter style tailpiece, (tailpiece is still 4/4 size)

The best Octave strings!

I’ve tried the sensicore strings and helicore is way better. The sensicore strings are much thicker and have a slower response time.

cheap vut you get what you pay for

These are inexpensive compared to the Thomastik strings and there is a reason. the tone was flabby and the length inadequate for my purposes. I'll stick with the Thomastiks.
cheap didn't sound very good and the length was inadequate

What a kick!

I have a fiddle that I was considering selling because I didn't like the tone. I opted to try these strings and... WOW!! Now I love the thing and so does everyone else. Where ever I go, people want to try it out. I don't know that I'd want to make a habit of it, but in standard fiddle jams, it adds a nice touch.
Deep, rich tone. Great fun if you're looking for something different. I find that I need a lightly "meatier" bow. It takes some getting used to.
