Gauging for the RIC sound
I'm using an electric guitar with a unique sound. I've replaced the G-strings to a 10 plain and a 20 wound; the high D-string with a 13 plain and lastly the high A-string with a 20 wound. If you like the Rickenbacker sounds of Tom Petty and George Harrison these are the gauges used. I've been playing acoustic and electric 12-string for 50 years. D'Addario has been the most consistent through the decades.

D'Darrio EXL150 Reg Light Ga Ni Wound Electric 12-string
I want to like these strings. They sound great. I purchased five sets to have on hand. Got around to re-stringing my electric 12-string guitar, and three of the .008" (octave G) strings unwound at the ball end... they would not reach tension for proper pitch. So, I'm disappointed at that. I soldered the winding at the ball on the fourth string I tried, and presto, no problem achieving pitch. The guitar I have has separate saddles for each string, so I spent some time setting the intonation. During this time, despite my best efforts, the fourth G string broke at the tuning peg from repeated stress. Anyway, the fifth string has held up fine (soldered this one too).
I'm considering bumping up the guages to a set that has an .009" string for the octave G. I'll see how this set holds up.

Very good choice for electric 12 string.Just got my first 12 with the original strings and needed new ones.Thought of getting some 9`s (not d'addarios) but got the 10`s and they play and sound great and are really smooth with nice tone and play super easy, almost too easy for a 12 string.Had to set up the guitar of course-nut,neck,&bridge adj,etc..Glad i chose them.My friend couldn't believe how easy it plays.

My electric 12 string strings
The best strings for the electric 12 string player, perfectly bridging the gap between the acoustics you might be used to and the lighter gauges and silkier feel you'd expect from an electric.

12 String super lite
They feel great and the playability is awesome, stringing up the 12 string is a different story!! But, the strings are great!
