Finally Found My Set of Strings
December 19, 2020
I can't count the number of years I have bought a 10-46 set of strings and then had to buy an 18 wound G, discarding the 17 plain, because I prefer a wound G. This has been wasteful and expensive. The EXL110W set has been a very nice surprise. The strings sound and play phenomenally well, and sound as I like. I use them on a variety of electrics: 2006 Epiphone Sheraton USA, 2006 Fender Nashville Power Tele, 2014 D'Angelico Excell SS, Heritage H-550 and a T-Style Double-Bound, blue, minihum pickup in the neck position partscaster. This set of strings play and sound great on every one of these guitars.
Pros Great sound and feel

As always superior quality delivered from D'Addario that's why they are the only strings I have been using for over 40+ years of playing professionally.

String review

These strings met my expectations. Very effective in reducing 3rd string dominance in single coil pickups w/o adjustable pole pieces. Versatile. Stay in tune well. It's great to have a resource like JustStrings to obtain exactly what I want. Thanks

I like the overall feel and sound of the string but they die VERY quickly.

I swapped the EXLs for the Vintage Reissues on my Les Paul Trad last night. I had expected them to be a bit brighter, but wow - big difference in general. At 1st I didn't like them - the string balance was off (B string was louder and the bass E was booming), and I thought the low end was just a bit muddy too. Overall it sounded a bit...dirtier, like adding more gain w/o adding much volume. After tweaking the PUPs & pole screws, and tweaking the EQ settings a bit, the tone really started to grow on me. It has a creamy growl w/o being too dark. What I imagine a vintage LP would sound like!

No big diff using the wound G string, though I like it cause it seems I always have some issue with my G strings (chiming, ringing, etc).

Made sure again this AM, still sounds great! Ordering more right now.
