D'Addario EPN120 Pure Nickel Electric Guitar Strings = Great!
December 23, 2020
I bought two sets of these to replace the strings on my PRS SE Singlecut, and PRS SE Custom 22 Semi Hollow. The guitars sounded good, but a bit too bright, and trebly for me. I put the EPN120 string sets on them, and they have made a difference. Both guitars now sound warmer, but still defined, and bright enough.....not muddy. I really like the strings a lot, and will use them from now on.
ProsWarm, yet detailed sound. Sound bright enough, and not muddy.
ConsNo negatives

Great tone, a joy to play, and reduced tension. Put a set on my Tele and a set on my Strat replacing the .009 - .042 pure nickle set (from a different manufacturer) I've been using for years. Instantly better! I can verify the reduced tension from the bow of both necks and the tremolo position on the Strat but most important, the tone! VERY responsive to pick attack and vibrato.
ProsGreat tone, playing ease and reduced tension.
ConsNone I can find.

D'Addario Electric Guitar Pure Nickel .009 - .041, EPN120

I play mostly acoustic but lately I have had the bug to drag out my electric. When I played it just didn't sound the way I wanted. Nickel plated strings were just not making it. I put these on last night and it the sound was exactly what I was looking for. I have found the right string.

If you like the tone and sound of virtually every hit record from 1954 to 1968. This is the material [pure nickel] that was used on every one of them from Chuck Berry to The Beatles.

Great tone, great feel, great sound. IF you want that Duane Eddy sound, you will need these strings. The original is still the greatest!

D'Addario XL Pure Nickel

Classic electric guitar string tone dates back to the 1950's when pure nickel was the primary alloy used. As the need for brighter tone and higher magnetic strings grew in the 60's, nickelplated steel became the industry standard. D'Addario XL strings feature nickelplated steel, but D'Addario's new XL Pure Nickel strings offer a warmer, vintage tone alternative which many enthusiasts prefer.
