Good Match
May 27, 2011
I use these on my Gibson J-200 and they are a perfect match. This guitar sounds big and loud anyway, but the D'Addario ej19's really bring the guitar into focus-just the right balance between bright and a solid bottom end.

So far, so great!

I play guitar in an Irish Celtic band using DADGAD tuning and recently bought a new Martin D-41. As always with a new guitar, I try various strings to find the best fit for tone, playability, and longevity. So far, I've tried Martin SP Phosphor Bronze Lights, Mediums and Light-Mediums, Martin FX Phosphor Bronze Light-Mediums, Martin 80/20 Bronze SP Mediums and Curt Mangan PB Mediums. I definitely prefer the Light-Mediums over Light or Medium, and really like the Martin SP Phosphor Bronze on this guitar. I use nothing but D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Lights on my 1972 Guild F-30R Paul Simon, so decided to try the D'Addario Bluegrass set on the new D-41 and they're great! To me, they're better than any other string I've tried on this guitar. Excellent balance, tone, and playability.

I have used these strings for years on my HD-28, they are made for each other.

The gauges of these strings mix medium basses with medium light trebles. This allows you to get the punch you need in the bass strings to keep the beat with a mandolin and fiddle and the lighter gauge trebles make it easier to execute hammer-ons, pull-offs and triplets when flat-picking. There is a trade-off with volume with the lighter strings which may be significant if you are not playing with a mic.

"In 1974, D'Addario pioneered the use of phosphor bronze wire for the winding of acoustic guitar strings. D'Addario phosphor bronze strings were an instant and enduring success. A more costly alloy, phosphor bronze was widely known as a durable, long-lasting material used in machine bushings and bearings. After months of searching, a wire company was located that agreed to make sample wires for testing on music strings. The results made history. D'Addario phosphor bronze strings are bright sounding and retain their brilliance longer than other bronze and brass alloys.

Round wound phosphors are available in 6 different gauges for 6 string guitar, 3 gauges for 12 string, and 4 gauges in the Flat Tops series. Flat Tops are round wound phosphor bronze strings that are lightly polished to reduce finger noise and fret wear, and are an excellent choice for noise-fee recording. Phosphor Bronze strings are available in both environmental and standard packaging."
