D'Addario ECB84 Flatwound Bass Strings
December 30, 2014
I'm a long time guitar player, now picking up the bass and I've always like the feel of flat wound guitar strings, and being a huge fan and long time user of D'Addario strings, trying these out was a no-brainer for me.
I installed these on my MIM 50s Classic Series PBass, changing from the round wound 45-100 nickel plated steel strings that came on it originally.
First, I have to say the feel of flat wound strings as compared to the round wounds is amazing! No squeaks when you slide a note, and they are very comfortable to play on.
Secondly, they tune to pitch quickly and hold pitch very well when they are finally broken in, which doesn't take very long at all anyways.
And last but not least, the tone is outstanding! Classic Fender PBass tone in spades, smooth with a nice mellow thud.
I'm very happy with these and all the other D'Addario strings I use with my other instruments. I will most certainly be picking up a couple more sets soon just to have!

These are bright, lively flatwounds. This set is a good low-tension option if you want to avoid the stiff feel of some flats. I have these on one of my P basses with medium action and they have great tone for me.

Bright!

Every string is bright with some to spare!
The only thing to dislike is at first, they are sticky.

These are excellent strings, especially for fretless basses. They have an extremely smooth feel and are well balanced in both tone and tension. They are more responsive and brighter than typical flatwound strings. I use them on my Fender Tony Franklin fretless and G&L JB-2 fretless. I have also used them on a Warwick Corvette fretless and Fender fretless Jazz Bass.
