Chorda
Designed for baroque orchestral music, Pirastro Chorda viola strings are crafted by hand. Since 1766, Pirastro has continued to manufacture authentic, traditional viola strings that produce the warm, dark tone and the performance characteristics that baroque musicians require. Pirastro Chorda gut strings feature very low string tension which offers professional baroque players a wide range of possibilities for tonal expression.
The A and D strings feature plain sheep gut, and the G and C strings are wound with a silver-plated copper wire. For an even older and more traditional design, the G and C strings are also available in plain, unpolished copper. This winding variation gives the Pirastro Chorda set a darker timbre than the standard sliver-plated copper wire. Designed for professional violists, the gut strings have a delayed bow response due to twisting action, something professionals are trained to anticipate.
