These strings are definitely medium gauge and with that comes slightly higher tension and a fuller sound. More midrange and more character than common light gauge strings. They feel "broken in" right out of the box - they came up to tune very quickly and stayed there similarly quickly. Sound has been consistent for a few weeks now with no obvious changes from staying at tension and being played daily.
I marked these as 4-star instead of 5 because the 4th string isn't as earthy and robust as I like. It is more balanced with the other strings, so that could be a good thing if it is what you were looking for. I was just hoping for a little more growl when I play the lower notes in my banjos natural range. I may try different bridges and keep these strings the same for a while to see if I can get a stronger low end from them.
I haven't ruled out keeping this set of strings on my banjo and continuing to use them. They are pretty good after all.
FWIW, I put this on a 1911 Vega Senator.
Nice warm sound for metal strings. Tunes up quickly and easily and stay in tune.
4th string feels "weak" to my ears.
