aquila nylgut ukuklele strings

We have several ukuleles including a couple of cheapos. These strings really improve the sound of a cheap uke. They hold their tune well and they feel great too.

Aquila Concert Nylgut Strings

The Aquila Nylgut strings are on all my ukuleles. I prefer their brightness and ease of staying in tune. I would recommend them to anyone serious in having good quality sound on their ukulele.

My Kala Concert Uke came with Nylgut. They were great for a year and a half when they showed some wear which I found acceptable still holding there tones. I bought a good brand of Nylon strings which I used for a month and hated then replaced them with new Nylgut strings. Everything people have been saying about them rings true. Service from JustStrings.com was great, I'll buy these again from them. Try them and see for yourself.

Nylgut ACRC strings

Put these strings on a Mitchell M=100 Uke. Didn't care for the strings that came with it so I replaced them with Martin strings. They were worse - too thin. The nylgut strings are great - better tone once they settle down - Will get them again!!!

Love the sound. Using them currently on my Fluke, but will be also trying a set on Kamaka Tenor. Expecting the same great quality.

Aquila Concert Ukelele Strings

Firstly, they are really, really stretchy, so only wind two turns on your tuner barrels,, not three like the instructions suggest-- I ran out of room doing three and had to re-string them. Second, they took FOREVER to settle in-- nearly two weeks, but now that they are settled, they stay in tune for an entire session. Third, they feel wonderful under my fingers--like parchment, not nylon. Fourth, they are beautiful sounding with clear, crisp attacks, confident projection, and warm sustains. It makes my Ukulele sound almost like a guitar--warm and rich, not cheap and tinny. Highly recommended!!!

I used these to replace the stock strings that came with my concert Oscar Schmidt. These sound SOOO good!! They are a lot clearer and brighter and reverberate so well. Highly recommended!! Getting the same kind for my tenor Lanikai.

I've used these strings on my KoAloha tenor for four years now. I've tried others and keep coming back. Clear and bright with a mellow and full tone. AND these strings can take abuse! Well worth the price...

Substantially improved the tone of my Schmidt Ou5 uke. I also changed to this brand for my charango with similar improvement. Great strings!

Great strings

Bright but full tone. Good atack. Med tension. These are great sounding strings.

Nylgut is a completely different material than Nylon and needs a bit of extra care during installation because of its soft surface and different molecular structure.

First check that the string channels in the nut are rounded and have no sharp edges, especially the lower edges facing the fingerboard. Because the string approaches from a slightly downward angle, if that edge is sharp the string can hang up on it, create a burr and break. It needs to be just slightly radiused, and this procedure can be done with very fine sand paper and an old string, or a small round file. Some makers ignore this because Nylon strings are very hard and can withstand a poor set up. Sometimes bridge saddle edges on the tying side are sharp as well and should be radiused slightly with fine sandpaper.

It is good to help the strings over the nut by lifting them slightly right at the nut as you tune up. Plain Nylgut trebles stretch like crazy so you should also cinch the strings up tight on the barrels before winding. Be sure not to overlap wound strings on the tuning barrels. The preferred method is to put a set on an instrument in the evening, bring them just up to pitch, let them sit overnight, and finish tuning in the morning. This allows the molecules some time to adjust to being stretched. Give them a week or so to stretch in fully (less for ukulele strings) before passing any judgment on tone as it takes a while for them to develop their best sound.
