red line strings
November 13, 2014
I purchased a full, unwound set of red line strings for my ukulele over a month ago. I was careful to bring them to tune slowly and maintained a consistent temperature. They have stretched beautifully and I have not had any trouble with breakage. In addition to playing ukulele, I am also a harpist, and I appreciate the response of these strings--although it is not exactly like playing on gut, these strings have less overall "bounce" than plain nylon and a smoother sound than wire-wrapped strings. I am very pleased with my investment in these strings.
I suspect that people who have had trouble with breakage may have a higher bridge with a sharper angle than I do--my bridge is quite low and somewhat beveled. A high bridge with a steep angle will put too much stress on a single point for these strings.

This is my Amazon review of these strings.
I bought and installed the low G for tenor and the D and G for Baritone. Both of the Baritone strings broke before I could get them tuned. The tenor string stayed with me for a couple weeks. Then it just snapped while in the case. These are crap. The all gut sound continues to allude us. Don't waste your time or your money.
