Fender Bass Guitar Stainless Steel 5-String Flatwound Long Scale 34", .045 - .125, 9050-5MNelsonDecember 28, 2011I bought these strings to try out some flatwounds. I know many flatwounds can sound kind of "dead" to players who have been playing roundwounds, but these strings are bright enough for some rock, especially if doing some old Zeppelin tunes. These strings have an emphasis on the low end, but don't lack highs. Sound great with fingers, pic, slap and pop. I found I needed to roll of the highs when doing Jazz to get a smoother tone, but keeping the EQ flat makes for some great vintage bass sounds. The D string is very present, making a lot of basslines in the middle range sound awesome. Try out these strings, no major tonal differences between the strings, nice emphasis on the low end, but still a comfortable top end.
