The Elixir Strings Story
"New guitar strings sound great. They are usually bright and crisp, and the guitar delivers a punch most musicians prefer. Unfortunately, body oils, perspiration, and corrosion quickly compromise sound quality and brightness.
Elixir Strings,
The Technology Solution
ELIXIR Strings are perfect for all musicians who need great sound and consistent performance, plus the benefits of less squeak and faster action. Casual players or musicians who own several guitars prefer ELIXIR Strings because a guitar can sit in its case and still sound great when played occasionally. All players will enjoy the comfortable feel of the PolyWeb Coating.
The Secret is the PolyWeb Coating
PolyWeb Coating is a high-tech polymer applied to wound guitar strings in a very controlled and precise manner. The PolyWeb Coating is continuous and surrounds the windings of the string. Although the coating is light, it is very durable. The surface coating on the windings will wear first in the strum and fret area, but sound quality is not compromised during surface wear. The coating between the windings reduces strings contamination and does not wear as quickly.
Science · Music · Magic
For nearly two years, Gore scientists studied the physics of a guitar string. Extensive testing of experimental guitar strings with musicians led to the development of specifications for ELIXIR Guitar Strings. Three different guitar strings prototypes were evaluated by nearly 15,000 musicians over a twelve month period. After additional refinements, Gore scientists and players agreed they had a string with superior sound, excellent durability, and a great appearance.
Today, musicians rate sound quality in side-by-side string tests, while engineers measure string sound characteristics with a dynamic signal analyzer (DSA). DSA testing is particularly effective in evaluating the exceptional sustain of ELIXIR Guitar Strings. Gore also designed and built a unique abrasion testing device that simulates the wear of the coating during play. Coating durability is also evaluated using high-speed photography. Science technology and continued musician evaluation ensure that ELIXIR Guitar Strings meet expectations.
An Excellent Value
ELIXIR Strings sound great, and the extended musical life of the wound strings makes them a great value. Musicians have reported three to five times the musical life compared to conventional guitar strings. Additional benefits include less noise, fast action, reduced corrosion, and comfort."

Elixir Banjo Light PolyWeb Coating, .009 - .020, 116002Crowell HolcombOctober 3, 2009I have used elixir strings in the past for the simple reason that my hands perspire while playing (especially in the summer), and I find myself wiping off the strings constantly while performing. For that reason, strings usually do not last that long. I usually play the Gibson ES light strings. The sound quality of the elixir strings is not as good as the Gibson strings, and the little bit of extra play is not worth the extra cost. I'll stick to the Gibsons. |
