C.F. Martin Dulcimer Strings

Martin strings will give your dulcimer the vibrant and brilliant sound needed to play which ever genre of music you choose. From traditional bluegrass to modern folk and ballads, you will not be disappointed. Four string sets come with three silvered plain steel strings and a fourth wound string that is tin plated wire wrapped on a tin plated steel core wire. These strings are made for the popular, Appalachian dulcimer, sometimes called the mountain or lap dulcimer. Its strings are played by plucking strings along a fingerboard that runs down the length of the extended eight shaped instrument.

The dulcimer is in the zither family and probably developed from European instruments brought to the Appalachia area of the United States in the eighteenth century. Its popularity grew in the late nineteenth century when dulcimers were primarily used as parlor instruments for home entertainment due to their low volume capability. But it was in the 1950s and 60s with the folk resurgence in American cities that the dulcimer truly began its popular life in American music. Joni Mitchell, Brian Long of the Rolling Stones and Cyndi Lauper have all used the dulcimer (acoustic and electric) in their music.
